Can you see the position that it used to be in? If so you may find it easier to make a sturdy bracket and bolt it to the bottom of the chassis, especially if there is any rust around to make welding difficult. I can't give measurements without dismantling my lcv but have got a photo that may help you gauge the position.

Hi Les thanks for answering my query yes I have the position of the base of the retainer bracket but I have no idea what shape it was I have replaced the lower half of the box section in that area so I could get a good fixing by welding or bolting I just wasn't sure if I was going to get enough tension on the springs by guessing the position.

Ok give me a little while and I'll sketch out the shape and find a picture of the assembly, which might help show the tension required, in the relaxed position.

There is only a spring for the brake pedal in there - I guess it's not critical, as long as it returns the pedal.

The bracket is approx. 18swg thick. The spring must be under slight/reasonable tension when in the stationary position so as to ensure the brake pedal returns, the spring in the photo is not fully connected but you may be able to judge the bracket position in relation to other areas in the picture. Although, now I see the picture this may not be plain enough to see! Sorry best I can find.

Check in the nearside chassis as there is one in there for a left hand drive model. As it's not been used you may be able to reverse engineer a mirror image one for the off side you require

That's a good idea.

Why not just put a small bolt (1/4"?)in there with the head up and a nut on either side of the chassis to hold it?
