Morris Minor Owners Club

From what I hear everyone likes the Minor exhaust note on the overrun, took my van for a run today and the noise is really bad and spoilt the ride, how can I stop the racket? Anyone know if it's possible? Otherwise it'll have to go!

are you stainless or mild steel
some say a turned down end may help
i also hate the over run

It's the location of the silencer - dunno if there is room to move it to the end of the pipe? I assume you have the LCV exhaust with side exit?

It's mild steel, and yes side exit. I've always been under the impression that exhausts are 'tuned' so to speak, for a certain engine spec, so not sure about altering, although moving the silencer, despite the hassle involved in making it up, probably wouldn't alter the spec to that degree, and on reflection I seem to remember a tuned exhaust design is more critical on two stroke engines. However would that be the answer or perhaps a different camshaft. The noise is embarrassing at the moment. .

Anyone tried adapting an RC40 system off a Mini, they sound nice

It's certainly not 'tuned' to the Minor engine....just where it was convenient to put the silencer. Mini silencer is at the rear - and no 'farting' from the exhaust. Tuned length exhausts are only for highly modified engines - and only 'work' at specific revs and perhaps harmonics of these revs if it can rev hard enough!

I thought everyone loved the minor overrun as much as me?!

I quite like the sound of mine - it only tends to do it on long downhill coasts.

The Marina with A-series engine had two silencers, one just behind the rear exit pipe.

I think the exhaust fart is great, my traveller has a cheap stainless exhaust and its very noisey on the over run! My mate has a van with side exit exhaust and it is noisey most of the time, more noticeable because it near to the drivers window. You will get used to it!!

Nor me! Everytime I change gear it makes this din!

Change gear more quickly...without letting the revs drop !

I fitted a short 3" section to the end of mine and it made a big difference.ooo err she would say that

Will have to try those sort of things. My pickup has the same set up and makes no noise.

Hi Panky, I have been using RC40 system for years, they are quite cheap and last about 7 years. You have to cut and weld a bit and a visit to a local exhaust supplier for a bend or 2 from his scrap bin will do the job.I have a janspeed exht manifold on the pickup and it goes well.

Great systems, got a stainless one with a Maniflow manifold on my Cooper and they are very popular in the Commer van community, makes the old Rootes 1725 breath a lot better
