High Dome Radiator with Serial Number

Not a problem but an observation (the problem was that I cleaned the rad too much and it sprung 5 leaks).
I took my rad out (to free up the drain tap) and noticed it had a serial number plate (but no fan belt protection flange - you can see where it used to be soldered on).[frame]Image[/frame]
Must be the original rad - unfortunately, I had to have a new core fitted. I've just resoldered the S/N plate back on, prior to refitting (its the Clarendon Grey car in my sig pic).
The plate reads
MORRIS MOTORS LTD
RADIATOR BRANCH
OSBERTON WORKS, OXFORD
APE0000 306 09872
The middle 3 digits are a bit "flat" and the "3" is a guestimate.
I'm intrigued to know how many rads still have their ID plates? Hopefully POMMreg will come along and tell us about the numbering range.
Repaired rad was sprayed, all over, with black paint - including the cleaned up brass drain tap, that then took me about an hour to cstrip and free off again!
NOTE: it cost me £130.00 + VAT to have this rad recored and the day after I commited to the work, the MMOC mag came out with an advert from ESM selling new high-dome rads (made from original tooling and including a tap) for £119.00 inc Vat and P&P!
That's life, I suppose.

My Series MM rad still has the maker's plate, Morris Radiators Birmingham. If ever the rad has any repairs I tape the plate over with instructions not to paint any brass parts

My 1955 S11 hi top rad has a brass plate.

As best as I can see, my eyes a bit older than the name plate.
Am I now a POMMreg disciple.

hi my s2 1955 has its original rad and the drain tap works !

Back in the car. I'm hoping that the heat in the header tank won't melt the solder. It was soldered on using a gas blow torch, so I hope that that was a lot hotter than the tank will ever get.[frame]Image[/frame]

That's a nice looking rad, with the original information.

No chance of the solder melting, 60/40 solder melts at a shade under 200 deg c.
