Fuse which goes black but never blows.....???

I have found that the fuse on the right hand side of the fuse box was black inside and had burnt a hole in the little piece of paper inside the fuse. I have replaced the fuse twice now and they all go the same way but never actually blow. Any ideas? I think it must be that a high current is passing through the fuse but i dont know how to find the guilty component.

i've seen plenty just like that and never worried about it.
The fuse it there to stop the wiring catching fire in event of a short circuit, so if it's the correct rating and it hasn't blown andd your car hasn't caught fire either it seems to be working so far.........

Well i just thought that I must be wasting power somewhere, but as you have three of them ill take your word for it...

You might well be wasting power as a fused rated 17/35 (like the Moggy ones) are designed to carry 17 amps OK, but blow at 35 amps. If yours are going black then they are more than likely exceeding the 17amps. If you can, connect an ammeter in-line with the fuse and see how much current is being drawn by the devices that the fuse serves. Then you SHOULD be able to see which device is causing the excess load.

ok, that seems to make sense cam, ill hav a go with the ammeter sometime..
