Disc Brake Master Cylinder

Post by chrisyp »

Hi All

Having fitted disc brakes to Molly some time ago, I have just got to the stage where I have un-seized the master cylinder and now ready to rebuild with new seals. However I remember when I did the conversion that one of the seals has to be left off. But as I have moved garages the instructions seem to have got lost in the move (I'm sure if someone can help they will suddenly reappear!!!). Could any one help with the information about which seal to leave out.

Thanks in advance

It's the "top hat" one that fits in the metal cup.

Hi,
I'm planning to do the disc brake conversion too, and will include this modification.
But, what is the purpose of this seal? And why is it not needed having front discs and rear drums? Is the rear drum brake still working properly after conversion?

Thanks for your reply.

The seal maintains a slight residual pressure hat is required for drums, but with discs it can lead to them applying themselves whilst driving. With front discs and rear drums, the rear drums work perfectly without the seal.

Thanks,
Received my package from ESM yesterday. Unpacked it and so far it seems OK. Instruction for assembly is also included. Nice job to do this winter when the moggie is resting from the summer rides :)

Considering installing the servo too, but let's wait for the results of the discs first.
