Gearbox to engine reassembly.

Just marrying these two back together out of the car, and noticed it seems like I'm one bolt short,

But this is causing me some confusion because I was very careful with dismantling and it was such a long time ago I took it apart I can't remember if this is a space for an auxiliary or something.

Here it is:[frame]Image[/frame]

This is my first time dismantling/reassembly this so please be gentle!

All I can see is a missing bolt/washer & nut.
You have miss placed the bolt, spring washer and nut and nothing more.
NO ancillary's fitted on the minor bell housing.
Not to worry it happens to the best or rest of us at some time or other :D

Yep you should have a both there. As you still have the starter motor out, you've not put the missing bolt in on eof the starter motor holes have you. I'm sure you haven't :)

I was hoping I'd found an easy answer for you but unfortunately not :(

I never used to put all the bolts in anyway.....missed out the 'difficult' ones - and one was enough for the starter too... Even more so with the Minis - some of the clutch cover bolts there are extremely annoying....and it all works just fine without them!

It could also be in the ground strap attached to the car.

And there was me putting all those extra bolts and location pegs in the bell housing so that the extra torque would not rip the engine and gearbox apart

Ha! Found one that fits but glad to hear they're not all that important...!

Phil I never had enough power for that to be the slightest risk.... I'm not really suggesting folks should leave bolts out - just making the point that one or two missing is not the end of the world... :)

I usually have nuts and bolts left after I put something back together. If you do it a few times you'll end up with nice pile of spares.

You must run a very lightweight car Roy, there seems to be no end of gear you run without, beehive springs always come to mind, the other bits I forget! :D :D

That'll be the two bolts in the very bottom of the mini clutch cover, right next to the sub frame.

One is awkward but possible, one is a real b...h, just helped someone sort a mini clutch out, an acquired taste I am sure working on them.

But don't forget that those weight savings are offset by all the spare coils in the boot.

Seconded, I found bolts and split pins missing on the minor, the worrying one being one of the damper bolts, and a split pin from the track rod end. Bodged re-assembly and bad workmanship, certainly not the place to leave fasteners out of.

Unless self locking nuts had been fitted......
