Hi,
Hope everybody had a good christmas!!!
Just trying to fit me new track rod ends but i have come across a problem. When i try to tighten the nyloc nut the thread moves with it and i can not see anything to get hold of. Anyone had similar problems? or maybe point me in the right direction.

There should be two flats on the tie rod itself that you can grip with a spanner/adjustable/mole wrench which stops the rod rotating. I hope I'm right, good luck.

sorry have not made myself clear, it is the part that attaches to the trunnion. The actual threaded part that sticks out from the bottom of the track rod end.

I'm confused - The track rod (I thought) is the piece that sticks out from the steering rack and attatches to an arm sticking out from the King Pin. The trunnions are at either end of the king pin and attatch to it and the suspension arms. I might be wrong, but we're talking at cross purposes here - hang on I'll try and find a pic...

MARTYN... a common problem, obviously you need to have
the taper on the new end pushed firmly enough into the steering
arm to stop it revolving. any sort of temporary clamp will do it,
some of the 'mole grip' type tools would be suitable. If not you could
try putting an oversize nut as a spacer on the threaded part so that
the new nut can be done up and pull the taper into firm contact
BEFORE the new nut reaches its tightest section. Once the taper has
been locked you SHOULD be able to remove the spacer nut!!

Aha! It was the talk of 'attatching to the trunnion' that threw me!

Hello MM,
either try tapping the bottom of the track rod end joint to seat the taper or use a plain nut to pull the taper tight then replace that nut with the nyloc, the latter method is usually the more effective.
