Speedo

... Treat me like I know nothing. No real mechanical or Morris knowledge (though fairly proud I managed to change a fuel pump).

Took the traveller out for a spin today and the speedo which always used to wobble a bit (took it to be just because it was an old car) started flapping up to 70mph when I was doing around 30 and making an awful noise. Has seemed to rectify itself, but I wondered why the problem might be. When the needle becomes all erratic it makes an annoying noise, and then it seems to click back into place and works fine.

Is it likely to be where the cable fits into the unit - or maybe the other end.

Again - know nothing about these sort of things so treat me as a novice learner :D :D :D I know you lovely chaps and chapesses are likely to have experienced this type of thing.

Take the cable out and inspect it and the outer sheath for damage, if ok grease it and replace. If it still occurs its more than likely to be your speedo. :(

Being a novice, no idea how to take the cable out. Easy job?

Search Google for Morris Minor Workshop Manual - free download - it's all in there. If you still don't understand - come back for help. But it is a sticking cable - may as well order a new inner cable ......

The video doesn't play.... snatching and bouncing IS a sticky cable winding up and letting go........
