Sounds a bit high for 1953, 803cc.

Engine number prefix usually H, never seen a K - there again, never
seen a ghost, so anything's possible!

Since it's a recon engine -we can't tell much from that number. What parts do you need? Does it have a filter screwed into the block just forward of the dizzy? Does it say '950' on the block - just forward of the exhaust pipe?

engine is now running very well , can anyone tell me what this light is for , just below and to the right of the ash tray (art deco style dash) there is a small hole with a light behind it , what does this light indicate , also under the dash same area there is a small black switch , is this standard and what is it for thanks

The little switch is for illuminating the speedo/gauges.

The light behind the dash is the main beam warning light and at night time can be easily seen shining through.

nice motor! below the engine number should be 2 letters, these give you the work done to the engine.

Letter Size changes (Thousandths of an inch)

A Standard
B 10 THOU
C 15 THOU Undersized (Crank only)
D 20 THOU
E 25 THOU Undersized (Crank only)
F 30 THOU
G 35 THOU Undersized (Crank only)
H 40 THOU
J 45 THOU Undersized (Crank only)
K 50 THOU
L 55 THOU Undersized (Crank only)
M 60 THOU

We need to see the other side of the engine. And - change that bypass hose urgently! It's about to let go.... :o

The first one relates to bore size, using Stevey's key, standard.
The next is the crank regrind size, again with that key 60 thou under.
Not to say no work (replacement crank for eg) has been done since, or that the internals are in any better nick than the next 803. Just that it's been rebuilt at some point. Though yours looks to be a very good example.

thanks is was reading it the other way round , the car was never on the road (so I am told) since this engine was fitted but looks to have a leaking core plug , fortunately it runs well so im hoping no internal damage , will know more when I lift it out as the clutch is stuck on , due to standing for years I guess , im starting to get interested but admit I am more at home with british bikes , thanks for your help im sure I will be asking more Qs on the site

Certainly an 803 - hard to imagine a 60 thou undersize crank - with standard bores ! Whatever you do - don't disturb that Gold paint in any way!

bit more info on this car its the 555th mk2 and the delux version , still original paint (dark grey "J" code) but not the wings as at some time they have been rubbed down , looking forwards to a drive , brakes look interesting 7 inch we will see

if its A J code - dark grey would be correct and yes correct again for 7 inch brakes, but i found little difference in braking effect :P especially with the 803cc!!!!!!
