Poo! Ignition light

Having had an ignition light that fails to go out due to a non-functioning dynamo which was so seized I couldn't get the cover off to check the brushes, I bought a new replacement (yes I could have got an alternator but I wanted originality). The difference now is that the ignition light goes out for a max of half a second before it glows constant red again. I will
now try other things by process of elimination -
Check wiring, voltages, regulator etc.

Poo I was hoping for a quick fix!

You should have tested the dynamo before ordering a replacement........ You will need to polarise the new dynamo to suit your car. Run a length of wire from the smaller terminal and touch it a couple of times to the non-earthed terminal of the battery. Then connect up as normal to see if it works.

Thanks Roy - actually I did test the old dynamo before removal and polarised new one correctly. As ever with this car a process of elimination but that's half the fun of it isn't it.

You've all been reading this forum for too long now............ :x So - the old dynamo didn't 'run as a motor' when tested? Does this new one ?

Yes new dynamo seems to be fine. I tried rewiring between dynamo and the regulator but no difference. Ignition light dims fractionally when I rev engine. A new regulator needed perhaps?

Indeed if the dynamo runs as a motor..... But maybe clean the contacts and adjust as per Manual?

Do the regulator points open and close correctly?

I'll double check that at the weekend Mike.

Thanks

Haha if only Roy :D I'm installing a new bathroom suite this weekend - in the house, not the minor - but will try to get at least 1 hour to bleed the brakes yet again!
