Rear spring mount falling apart
Hello, just found that the rear spring is in quite bad condition http://puu.sh/aYKE2.jpg . Do you know any trustworthy mechanics/welders around Stockport, near the Manchester area? Is it so far biggest concern with the car. I am on a crossroads, if I should pump more money into it, or just break it into spares and buy something else, but being my first car that gave me a lot of fun driving, I feel it's not really fair to ditch it...

You need to carefully survey the whole car before deciding it's beyond economic/sensible repair - not just one rotten corner.

Every Minor scrapped is one less for the future.

Hi,
I know what you mean, Ive been there. All I would say is I run two cars a 62 morris and a 02 LDV sherpa van , the morris is much better to work on and the parts are cheaper and available.
The panels for the spring hanger are easy to get and for a half way decent welder an ok job.
Modern cars are great until you come to work on them, keep the Morris!

The rear spring hangers are fairly common to go ... while you have the springs off you can also swap out the bushes, personally I go for poly bushes, they give a firmer ride but the rubber ones seem to perish inside a year or two.
I'd also go investigating the root cause of the rot ... what state are the rear screen rubbers in - when they get hardened over time water gets in, runs down the arches and gathers at the front and rear spring hangers ... if they're looking a bit old then take a very good look at the arches, rear spring hangers and the rear sills before you start spending money.
Don't scrap it though, someone may be willing to take it on for the price of what you'd get for scrapping it.

Mog was welded up by friends trusted mechanic, spring unscrewed, and put back later on. http://puu.sh/b1MsZ.jpg Appears that, the other side was done not so long ago. I'm going to keep it, and get back on road!
