choke cable

Hi
Trying to fit a new choke cable. Taken drivers side glove box out but struggling to get to nut on cable and loosen it.
What parts do I need to take off to get at the cable nut or should I be using a stubby spanner?

Might be easier by taking the speedo out?

All my cars have the choke cable over towards the passenger glovebox liner, and I had to take that out to get at the retaining nut. Mine are all 1950's cars - did the choke move over to the right in later cars?

Yes George the later ones with the aluminium panel have the choke on the right

"OFFshore' may have a LH drive car.
Our '61 has the choke on the drivers side, but then its a LH drive version.

I of M drive on the left... It could still be a LHD drive car - but unlikely...

I'm sure that my 1964 2-dr saloon (with spoked steering wheel - black bakelite) had the choke on the left as I fitted another "choke cable" by drilling a hole over on the right for the "hot-cold" control on the "mini" heater valve, having removed the brass tap (which I still have!). Unfortunately, I took that car off the road in November 1984 - needed a new floor and I had just moved house with a new baby and couldn't afford a repair (hindsight is a precise science) - check it out on the DVLA website (234 BVB) it is still down to my "removal" date - looks like the new owner never did anything with it!!!!

It was sporting the 2 front wings off my 1963 Traveller (transitional) and the passenger door, when we moved (Dove Grey) - somewhere I have a picture of the "mess" (non digital in the 1980's).

When a key start was fitted the choke was moved to the right and replaced by the washer pump.

Rather amused to see posts about me being a left hooker. Martha was first registered in UK in 1970 and is RHD. I like to think she retired offshore for tax reasons but that's probably unlikely!
Not done anything with the choke cable. Birthday shortly so hoping wifey will buy me a nice set of stubbies. Car is running with new inner running in old sheath. Choke not right though. Doesn't pull out as far as it did and has a tendency to pull itself in. Not quite got round to swiping a wooden clothes peg but might do tmw if I can't build in some slack.
