Mystery noise when braking

Hi,
I'm after some advice as to where and what I should be looking for if anyone can help please.
I decided that the universal joints needed replacing and also decided that I would get my local garage to fit them for me. Thats where it all began. the thing is I got my car back and as far as the u/j are concerned everything seems fine however now the car is making a dull, thud.thud, thud sound (as though something rotating) when I brake.
It was fine when I took it to the garage for the u/j's to be fitted.
When I returned it to the garage we had a look under the car and there doesn't appear to be anything obvious catching etc.
The only other thing the garage did was top the diff up with oil.
Does anyone have any idea or advice as to what I should look for. Also its hard to tell if the noise is coming from the front or rear of the car when your driving along.

Cheers everyone

Best Regards

Chris

I would be looking hard at the U/Js - are they installed correctly? Have they greased them? Do they flex easily (remove shaft to check..) Are the prop shaft bolts TIGHT? And you could try turning the prop flange 180 degrees on the Final Drive flange - and refitting it. Did they top up the gearbox oil - because oil would run out when they removed the prop shaft...
Ahhh - the perils of entrusting your car to a 'garage' :o :(

Hi everyone,
It's sorted.. The garage put the u/j's on the wrong way round so the turned them around the right way and ..magic everything ok

Cheers for the help though

Not sure about magic, I wasn't aware that they could go more than one way.

I was going to suggest that - but also imagined it wasn't possible...... I would give that 'garage' a wide berth in future......

Its Not possible,I suspect they have refitted the prop the wrong way round ie with the sliding splined end toward the axle, some mech that is.I would be looking to see if they have assembled the pro correctly ie the yokes at the front and back should line up in the same planes. its possible to fit the sliding end and put these out of line with each other, its easy to see just by looking.Find a better garage,
