BRAKES!

Heya everyone I hope you can help me
Tell me if the brakes are meant to be like this but I have a fair amount of free play and then the pedal is pretty much solid when to floor
on top of that the brake lights only come when pedal is right at the floor being really heavenly pressed
Someone please help I'm thinking it could be brake fluid or wheel cylinders but that would cause a spongey pedal if they were at fault wouldn't they

Oh dear - many problems I suspect! The 'long' pedal may just be the brakes needing adjustment - so try that first. If you don't have a Workshop Manual to tell you how to do that - then Google for it - there are FREE down loads out there. If that makes the brakes work effectively - but the brake lights are still slow to respond - then a new brake light pressure switch will be required. Realistically though - you are likely to need 4 new front cylinders + shoes, and 2 new rear cylinders + shoes.........and a new brake light switch.....and a litre of Brake Fluid.

Yeah they have, just seems as if the previous owner didn't know the meaning of the word adjusting so I wouldn't be surprised if they need adjusting. I've had to adjust the front drivers wing and now have to paint the door because it's taken the paint off, ive had to adjust the bonnet as it kept catching on the wiper and has taken the paint off the bonnet and also dented it and also had to adjust the clutch as I had like 3inches of free play

well the satement in your second post :iv'e only had it converted the start of this month: threw me right off, thought it had been converted to disc brakes which would lead to a totally different reponse to the problem you have.. but good luck with it.
