Duplex chain conversion

I've fitted a duplex timing chain together with new cogs. I've countersunk the two studs which would foul the crank cog.
I think I've done everything ok but. After I fit the oil thrower and felt washer the timing cover appears to too shallow to fit.
Ant advice would be very welcome.

Ehh? The felt ring fits IN the timing cover...if it's the early type - later ones use a rubber lip seal and NO felt ring.

Interested to know what the axe was used for in rebuilding your engine?

Colin,
It would be worth getting hold of a later timing cover with the rubber 'lip' type oil seal, as they seal more reliably.

Looking at the timing cover on the floor and the oil thrower plate fitted it appears that the later timing cover with lip type seal is already fitted. The earlier oil thrower plate that accompanies the felt seal has a very deep dish.
Still no news on role the axe played in the upgrade

Yes - it looks like an oil seal cover to me.
