Help with my Maestro van.
Squealing, coming from the engine bay when under load. Also had a slight leak from the water pump, which eventually became quite a bad leak. Changed the water pump today, assumed that was also the reason for the squealing. Water works are fine now,but still getting the squealing. Thinking now the alternator is making the noise,on tick over it's fine, but pulling away from lights, I get the squeal. confused. Alternator, and water pump are next to each other.

Re: Help with my Maestro van.
Is the belt worn and running in the bottom of the pulley?

Re: Help with my Maestro van.
It is very likely to be the belt - fit a new one, and check the alternator pulley is dead in line with the other pulleys.

Yes ,Dennis, very sound advice, but, sorry,no chance. Having stood on every footplate in Dae Woodham's yard in Barry,South Wales.many many years ago,the seeds of preservation became implanted in my head !aupickup wrote:sounds very bad scrap it to me![]()

Re: Help with my Maestro van.
Not checked that, cos the belt has seen better days, teeth missing, I worked on the assumption it was to tight. Bought another, off flea bay, wrong size, old one re fitted, til I can get the proper belt.les wrote:I'd have said loose belt but daresay you've checked that out.

Belt very worn. Thanks MarkyB.MarkyB wrote:Is the belt worn and running in the bottom of the pulley?
Re: Help with my Maestro van.
will do. Thanks for your help. Not had a no charge warning light on,so thanks for all the positive leads. Water pump was certainly ready for replacement. Same engine as the Morris Marina,I think ? Any ideas where I can get the correct belt ?bmcecosse wrote:It is very likely to be the belt - fit a new one, and check the alternator pulley is dead in line with the other pulleys.

Thank you. I'll call them in the morning.chesney wrote:ESM stock one for the Marina.
Re: Help with my Maestro van.
It's not the SAME engine - but very similar. An 825 belt fits normal alternator applications - but your engine may have the later/larger water pump pulley and so a slightly longer belt will be needed.

How does Roy know all this priceless mechanical knowledge?bmcecosse wrote:It's not the SAME engine - but very similar. An 825 belt fits normal alternator applications - but your engine may have the later/larger water pump pulley and so a slightly longer belt will be needed.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
Re: Help with my Maestro van.
Because I bought a virtually new Maestro engine - and then realised it would take too much to use it my Trav. It had the big valve 940 head (which I kept..) and I then sold it for what I paid - stupidly not realising (till it was gone) it also would have the desirable MG Metro camshaft inside.... Grrrr.

Re: Help with my Maestro van.
Ok,thanks for that, one on the way now, read post to late. I could take the alternator off completely, and possibly put it on that way. Just a bit worried, that I might knacker pumps bearings if it's all to tight. will get there !

Re: Help with my Maestro van.
Thanks folks, will keep you all updated. It never rains it pours. Engine bay covered with oil. Filler cap secure. Think I have crankcase ventilation trouble now. Looks like there is an oil separator above the gearbox. Maestro manuel says there is a filter. Possibly blocked ? Another job for Monday, back to work tomorrow.

Re: Help with my Maestro van.
Will check that out as well, thanks for the lead !
