Hi all, im currently restoring a 1960 4 door Minor. Its now blue but it looks to have been black originally. Its registration is NVS273, Would anyone have any info on this?

Could try DVLA for a V888 for its history.

I don't keep records of registrations, just chassis and every other number - so
not much good.

The NVS registration was never originally issued to the vehicle in 1960. It is a new number issued by the DVLA, either because of a registration transfer, or the original number couldn't be put on their computer for some reason. EVS *** was the last original VS reg issued in 1963/4 before they moved to AVS ***B.
The DVLA are definitely the best people to give you the historical information.

Wasn't there a NVS Morris Commercial?

Another re-registration. The whole NVS set, probably from 100, will have been used up quite quickly by DVLA. Same with *SU, *SV and many more over the years.

ie 1998 PSK, 1999 LSU etc

Going through 1-999 of every issue takes an awful lot of time!

No set allocation for these numbers. DVLA started by using original 'scottish' allocated registrations where very few had been issued, SU, SV, VS, etc. My RSU *** was allocated in 1989. They then they went to using any registration block that hadn't been previously issued with both letters before *** 123, and after 123 ***, the numbers, especially with a U or Y first letter.

Don't forget 'barn' vehicles, etc. being put on the computer for the first time still use up quite a lot of numbers. Also, requests to 'correct' earlier 1979 and 1980's cherished transfers where a B reg was always issued to an older car, are being accepted, and a non transferable older style number issued instead.

ANOTHER Minor with an identity crisis has jumped into my inbox - the id from
a similar car had been transferred to it to sell the registration - I've managed to
trace it's ORIGINAL registration number, but NOT the re-regn, probably been
listed as scrapped!

So there's no set re-regns for 1999?

Not as far as I am aware Chris. DVLA will know, and other people who had registrations allocated that year could maybe give some clues as to what was issued to them.

Were you at Kelmarsh, have the chassis & 9M noted?

M/A2S3 - no note of body number so probably too caked up, don't touch
unless I have the owners' permission!

Original regn should be on the V888 listing.

Hi, No I wasn't at Kelmarsh. I bought the car about a month ago. Comes with old style log book too. The chassis number I have given is the one shown on the bulkhead.

M/A2S3 is a 1960 2dr, M/AS3 blah blah 4dr.

It's been a very long time but I have made a discovery, the original Reg plate was changed in 1992. The original was GJM387.
Would anybody have any more information on the car from this plate?

Can't help you on your car history, but the registration you have given as your original number is shown on the DVLA and Congestion charge sites as now being on an untaxed 2000 year Jaguar XKR Auto in green. It might be that your car has outlasted the number, as the Jag has been untaxed since April 2006.
GJM 387 was originally issued in the county of Westmorland in 1960, sometime between March and July. The Cumbria county archivists in the area may have records of BMC dealer new vehicle registrations going back to that era, including the original owner's name. You can find details of their four archivist offices on the Cumbria CC web pages, but Kendal is the only one based in what was Westmoreland before the formation of Cumbria.

I contacted Kendal archived today via email giving them details of my request. Hopefully I'll get a reply with good news on the history from its sale in 1960.
