I need some machining doing on my 1953 side valve engine.

It needs cylinder liners fitting, the head and block need resurfacing and the valve guides have a bit of play.
Whilst we are at it i would also like an unleaded conversion.

Can anyone recommend someone that can do this type of work near Berkshire. Also will i need to get a mortgage to pay for it ?

Does anyone have any experience with either HT Howard in Slough or FJ Payne in Oxford ?

I wouldn't be worrying about 'unleaded conversion' - not even sure it's wise to attempt to fit hard seats into the block. If really worried (and I wouldn't be with a low powered SV engine..) - use Tetraboost in the fuel - it's the only one that contains tetra ethyl lead and effectively makes leaded petrol.

I had a sidevalve Ford GPW (Willys L134 'GoDevil') sidevalve engine fitted with hardened valve seats (amongst other things), but by Drakes in Bradford, up here ;).

Unleaded valve guides - what's special about them?

See:

It gives a full spread of engine machining cost and also their contact details.
I can highly recommend Oselli. They have done quite a bit of engine machining for me over the years.
