Another seatbelt thread - stalk vs webbing

Hello all!

I'm fitting new front seat belts and just wondered if there was any genuine reason why fitting webbed seat belts (as opposed to the thin metal stalk) is a bad idea.

I read somewhere that it's not allowed (at the front) on vehicles post-1972, so of course I will get away with it, but the question remains why does this rule exist? Because it's more prone to damage?

Cheers,
Matt.

Hi,
I have the original webbed static belts fitted in the front of my two door (now sadly missing their BMC stickers) and, whilst I would like to fit inertia reels in the future, I will be sticking to grey webbing, both to keep the classic look and also because of the fact that if after 51 years of use the webbing is still good I see no advantage in the metal stalk versions (plus IMO they look ugly in a classic!).
Best wishes,
Mike.

The stalk simply holds the connector in a handy place for you - rather than grubbing about under the seat to find the web connector. Safety wise (assuming no rubbing/fraying) I don't see any difference.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Mike, I agree with your colour choice! Black seemed to modern, red's too flash, beige just didn't go :)

Cheers,
Matt.

By the way Mike there are some replacement stickers on eBay, not sure whether they're correct, or if you're interested, but anyway there they are :)

Thanks for the links but mine would require a different shaped sticker to what is being advertised (mine are also not shiny chrome like those in the advert :( ).
I'll take a picture and post it on here in case anyone recognizes the type.
