Talking of sealing things, it's a plan to run a bead of mastic along each end of the kick plate (at A & B posts) but not silicone.

i have not done mine and thats out in all weathers and the inside is good

they are only there to help drain off all the water that collects in the bottom of the doors

I agree, Any water that did get past the kick plates can't run into the box section as the cut outs are higher than the lower ledge. If you see what I mean. If you did completely seal them any wet that got in couldn't escape.

As Aupickup says there is plenty of through draft to dry things out

Well all this is assuming that water gets in, if it's sealed properly it won't. I too removed the plates on the pickup, probably 3 years ago and the waxoyl was still present over green paint, and was pleasantly surprised to see no rust in the corners etc. They had been on since '98. I prefer to keep water out in the first place but if water was present I agree it needs to dry out, so once again it's a personal choice.

i think its hobsons choice and what ever you are happy with

there is also condensation to consider and if there is no air the condensation will take longer to dry out
but also i think a case of using the cars etc in the first place

Yes, condensation is a consideration, but even sealing the ends would not make it completely airtight, well not on a Minor!

thanks all , i think i will just put a blob of sealer on the top lip + screws to stop them rattling and leave them as they were , my car is 90% original in the floor and inner sills so i guess as it's survived 59 years of wet it should be ok
