I have just bought a Morris 1300 engine and a Sierra 5 speed gearbox.
is it worth the bother or should I keep the MM gear box. Opinions welcome.

If you're doubtful perhaps you should have asked before you bought it! People have fitted this box before and seem happy with it. It's too heavy for my liking.

Since you have it - you may as well use it. But is it a complete 'kit' - have the two been matched together before?

We have the Toyota T50 5-spd behind the 1380 A-Series and it is a superb combination. Combined with a 3.9 diff gives 70 mph @ 3400 rpm, so very relaxed cruising. Very smooth change, with a 'quickshift' as well, and of course synchro on 1st gear.

I would not be without it.

I have the Marina 1300 engine and Ford 5 speed conversion and think it was worth the effort as my Morris is quieter on a long journey and the mpg is better 45 on a run.

This link gives some guide to what is involved:

You will need a number of 'special' parts to fit it:

Gearbox crossmember
Speedo cable
Clutch cross-shaft bracket - gearbox end
Prop shaft
Clutch centre plate
Clutch release arm bracket inside the bellhousing
Bellhousing
Crankshaft spigot bush/adaptor
Transmission tunnel with hole to suit Ford Type 9 - there a number of Type 9 gearbox remote extension lengths, the short one seems to be the easiest, I don't know which donor that will come from

What parts do you have, apart from the gearbox itself?
