When you are reading the small ads, Ebay and all the other websites selling classic cars what does "Lady Owner " conjure up in your head.

Some of these cars ( one on Ebay at the moment ) look Knackered anyway so does it matter who owned it.

When I was a lad it was " Vicar or Reverend " owned making you think it was a cut above your neighbours example.

Now before we get into a fight about gender equality...is this relevant in 2014.

I look at the car when parting with my money....no flirty business works on me....well not always.

No it doesn't, I take anything a vendor says with a large pinch of salt anyway.

Oil hasn't been changed in 25 years and synchros are dead.

On a more serious note, I'd rather buy a car from an enthusiast (be it female or male) who's driven it a bit harder but given it good and timely maintenance than from an "old lady" or "vicar" who's never driven over 25 MPH.

'Lady owner' or 'One Lady owner from new' to me usually means Borg and Beck and Big Ends. i. e slipping the clutch due to taking off in 2nd or 3rd gear, or driving with foot resting on clutch pedal.

I agree with that - run with the choke out..., foot resting on the clutch - syncro ruined with crash gear changes and clutch destroyed with much slipping when taking away on hills......and neglected maintenance in spades... It's a warning to AVOID at all costs!

The only person who tried to defraud an insurance company by saying his heating system was damaged by frost and wanted a declaration as such from me was a vicar, needles to say I told him he was on his own with that one! So I would say it means nothing in the scheme of things and as others have said a car that has been pottered about in will just have a different set of potential problems. High milage motorway cars which have been regularly serviced tend to outlive runabouts.

The vicar was told by the insurance company that Met office records for that night showed a minimum temperature of 5 degrees centigrade so did he still want to pursue a claim?

Hehe, some guy on another car forum was claiming his car had hit some 'black ice' and spun off the road, looking for sympathy I guess.

I pointed out to him that the weather forecast for that night in his area showed temps way above freezing, as they had been for several days prior. He went strangely quiet after that, for some reason.

Google "funny insurance claims".

I struggle to believe, especially on this forum, that in 2014 people still feel that it's acceptable to make sexist chauvinistic comments. Attempting to cover such comments with 'just joking' and the like is, really, just unacceptable.

Can't see what difference the year makes, as long as there's no malice against ladies intended with these comments. You might as well say it's sexist to advertise as 'one lady owner' although that phrase is intended to complement.

My Morris had a lady owner the last 25 years, MY SISTER! It means the car broke down 25 years ago and was left to rot in a carport.
Still it's back on the road now.

Just waiting for the vicar to complain.

I'm just guessing here, but I suspect "sexism towards women motorists" isn't uppermost on the mind of most natives
of the Central African Republic(?).

"Lady owner" means to me either there just trying to get rid or it's been mistreated

my friend bought a so called 1 lady owner VW mk 3 golf to find that it has been clocked and was a bag of bolts

Don't listen to what they say about the car go see the car and inspect it for yourself
