Hello all!

Firstly, thank you for the wealth of information this forum offers, it has made the first few weeks of Minor ownership very easy indeed. Almost all the questions I needed to ask have been answered previously.

My name is Matt, have just bought a 4 door convertible (converted, of course!). Loving it so far. Every journey takes a lot longer - the car isn't THAT slow, but everybody likes to have a chat, don't they! Weather has been kind, which is especially important given that I don't have a roof yet! My lovely lady is making one, so wish us luck.

Just curious, is a 4 door convertible considered to be a rare sight? Can't say I remember ever seeing one, but then again I wasn't specifically looking! My logbook states that it is a convertible if that's of any interest/consequence.

Welcome to the forum. I think someone posted pics of a 4 door some back - but was never a factory model. I do hope the bodyshell has been adequately strengthened!

Piccie attached. Yes she is very clever, seems to be able to turn her hand to any task like that, however I think the roof will be her biggest challenge so far. There are marine-grade fasteners/toggles/turnbuttons already in place on the car and we have found the corresponding other part online, so just need to get a prototype made now!

The exterior and the mechanicals are pretty much sorted, although there are some wiring bodges to sort and the suspension rubbers have nearly had it despite only being changed 600 miles ago (so I was told), but I have heard that modern rubber can be pretty poor, so will give the benefit of the doubt. The chap I bought it from seemed like a good bloke to me. The interior has not been restored, but I like it as it as. The door pulls need to be replaced, but we have already sourced an old worn leather jacket from a charity shop to make up some more authentic-looking items.

The conversion was done sometime in the 80s, so before I was born potentially! There is strengthening to the underside which is clearly not standard, plus a very strong roll hoop has been installed across the top. I'm sure it would have fallen apart by now if it wasn't up to it That was my logic when I handed over my hard-earned cash anyway!!

Well done - that roll hoop is a VERY good idea. I wouldn't travel in a roofless car without one. Your car appears to pre-date the Citroen C3 Pluriel by about 30 years!

Haha yes indeed, if only the roof rails were removable! What a terrifying thought.
