Morris Minor Owners Club

Hi All,
Not been on for a while due to failing business and divorce etc....
But, to cheer me up, I sold one of my other toys, a Ford Thames Van and bought a Moggy Pickup.
she is rough and ready but hopefully I will just keep it going and have some fun.

I would like some background on the "Austin" vs "Morris" vans as this is an "austin 737kg vehicle it says on the log book.

Later LCV's were dual badged as Austin and Morris variations - typical BL badge engineering (see Farina Morris Oxford/Austin A55 Cambridge/MG Magnette Mk4/Wolseley 15/50 & 16/50/, Riley 4/68 & 4/72 and Vanden Plas Princess 3 & 4 litre R)

Austin LCV's are distinguishable by the Austin rocker box badging, Austin horn push, black (as opposed to Green) engines and a crinkle front grille where the Morris is straight as with all other Minors. Other than that, the vehicles are identical and use the same running gear etc.

Other, wiser heads and LCV experts will probably be along in a wile to add a few more details but those are the main differences. Either way, both variants are considered to be Morris Minors

Black engines in Austin Minor LCV's is a myth, much the same thing as the J/M
chassis prefix denoting an LCV built at Abingdon.

So, your's should be a GREEN engine with an Austin sticker on the rocker
cover.

Didn't the LCVs (A Series engines), come with plain hubcaps (no embossed 'M') They were badged as Austin' as some dealers were franchised only to Austin and not Morris , and the A35 van had been discontinued. Of course all the A Series vehicles use Austin designed Engine and Gearbox anyway. PS Join the LCV register

Yup, Austin pickup owner here, only changes are the horn push, bonnet badge, grille, plain hubcaps and the sticker on the engine valve cover (even the rear rubber blocks were the same with the embossed "M").

Thanks for the feedback, been doing some digging and the reason this truck is the way it is would be because it was mm away from being turned into a washing machine going by the pictures i was shown!
The body was ripe and loads has been done to it so i doubt I will be worrying about it being Austin or Morris, just going to have fun and use it.
Restoration probably wasn't financially viable at the time of repair!

53 Buick, yep, got one stripped down now ready for rebuild, last on the road in 2007 but now undergoing a full rebuild (albeit a slow one).

On the LCV Register you gave me enough stick when I redid my AUSTIN engine green, I changed it to black.

So should it now be GREEN???

All M1098 LCVs had plain hub caps

Black Engine- possibly some might have had. My M reg (FWD) Austin 1300 had a black engine, the K reg Morris 1100 had I think green. Your log book might also say BMC LCV or similar ( Rather than Austin or Morris )

Edwin Freer used to paint the engines at AddPk, if it was for an Austin he'd paint it black, if
was for a Morris, he'd paint it green.

On his retirement, his colourblind cousin began painting Morris engines - what he thought -
was VERY dark green, but in reality it was black. By the time his error had been discovered,
it was too late, and AddPk was closed due to shortage of black paint.
