Power Socket

Has anyone put a cigarette lighter type power socket in their Moggy? I like to listen to radio while I am driving my 1967 Traveller but it does not have a radio installed. Instead, I listen to radio on my smart phone usingh ear buds. I intend t get a wireless speaker in the near future. The cell phone plan I have is unlimited text, internet, cell phone etc for relatively cheap, so I can listen to internet radio all I want. The problem is keeping the phone charged which I could do if I had a power socket. Does the negative earth cause any difficulties in installing same?

Plenty of folk have - do a search on here or the other Minor forums.

It's a pretty straightforward wiring job, just be sure to use the correct grade wire and fuse/holder, and use a grommet where the wiring passes through the bulkhead, or it will chafe through and potentially cause a fire.

make sure it's fused at the live end of power cable (I've seen some real bad fusing!) and make sure it's well protected where passing through the bulkhead.

As for the ground/chassis connection - the longer the cables, the less efficient (more voltage drop) therefore ground it to chassis fairly close to the socket. There's plenty of nuts/bolts/screws in and around the dash that can be used with a ring terminal.
