1960 Indicators(RearLights) Pattern and Joy of Wiring Looms

Ordered from supplier a wiring loom for a standard 1960s four door saloon, no significant problems in fitting (the car is also getting its relay back to operate trafficators and the rear brake lights (?)(1)/front side lights for flashing indicators. I could fit rear amber flashers as it had these before the post 62 new rear wings were fitted (holes non -existant and slightly wrong places for the present day off the shelf rear brake/tail lights for the 1959-62 models). The wiring loom had correct Red and White/Purple White/Grey feeds and earth returns (no connector bullets, etc fitted just bare wires for the final fitment to rear lights). However the new light units simply had rubber encased bulb holder (with bulb), wired directly into Green and Red wires for feeds to Tail and Brake Light. For the o/s this was not too much problem to replace the loom supplied Red and White Feed wires and attached via bullet connectors, although I need to rummage in box for what I hope will be a good earth wire as the lights came without earth wires.

For the N/S I will probably end up with too much of a bird's nest of wiring in the boot area , I don't want to chop back the loom in case I fit alternative lights and indicators at some time, likewise its time consuming to run the wires into the lights and connect to shortened wires in the tail lamp (choc strip connection or similar)

Simply are correct, Lucas, rear tail lamps avalible for this year? or why cannot the pattern parts come with the correct fitment options. I do miss walking into local motor factors or unipart dealership and getting these off the shelf.

Oh, and the bolts supplied with the light units appear TOO LONG. (by about a third), and star washers only supplied on one unit. Of course the wing holes do not match up, that can be overcome with a search of the spare washers box(we hope)

(1) Brake lights to me seem sensible as would not show if it was the tail light flashing when tail light is normally illuminatedand braking occuring at the same time.
