A question about removing the steering wheel

I have a question about removing the steering wheel. But surprisingly it has nothing to do with that big nut.

I need to remove the steering wheel to get at the indicator switch - the indicators are working only intermittently and I think the contacts need cleaning.
I got the big nut off but now I can't get the wheel off. Is it supposed to just pull off once the nut is removed? I've been yankin' on the thing but it won't budge. I'm worried I'm going to break something.

Here's a photo in the off chance it helps:[frame]Image[/frame]

Just stuck on the splines. A little WD40 and tap with a mallet from behind. Suggest you re-attach the nut a couple of turns before you tap it though so it doesn't fly off and smack you in the mouth!! :(

The only thing that is going to break is your nose if you do not replace the nut. Mark the position of the wheel so that you can replace it on the same spline

Put the not back on a few turns. Hopefully you removed it with a 'real' tool rather than a chissel! What then works for me is using a smaller socket/tube that sits against the face of the nut without touching the horn connector. Then tap the socket/tube as you pull on the wheel. No damage is done to the wheel by hitting the back of it, using pullers etc.
