Carpet question

A question - Did a late Minor 1000 saloon have carpet covering the side and top of the 'chassis' box section or was it painted metal? (By 'chassis' I mean the deep box section running along the side of the passenger compartment, the exterior parts being the boxing plate and inner sills).

I ask this because I'm currently fitting a carpet set purchased two years ago (which came with no diagram or list of pieces). It's clear how the pieces I've got fit together, but there are no long straight pieces to cover the box sections. Before ranting at the supplier I need to know if saloon carpet sets should include these straight pieces.

Hello there!

Basically, you want to know if the sills inside the car were carpeted?

The answer to that, is yes.

You should have (I reckon, tho I've not fitted new carpets):
  • Rear "mats"
    Front "mats"
    Transmission tunnel covering
    Wheel arch covers (front)
The bit beneath the rear seat (where your heels go)
Strips to fold over the "sill" boxes.
If you bought the set new, I'd get back to them, and see what they should have included. If it was used... then maybe some parts have gone missing, or been used on another car. It's not uncommon for enthusiastic welders to destroy perfectly good carpet sets - or rear seats, as I know to my cost!! (Or rather his cost  )

Cheers Kevin & Gareth,

I do have all the carpet pieces you list except the sill cover sections. Luckily I kept the receipt, but it's beyond any time period covered by law so I probably can't demand that they supply the missing pieces (having long ago opened the bag they came in). I will however happily publish the supplier's details if they refuse to accept responsibility.
