choke cable

Having done all sorts to try and get my Traveller to start which it now does I find the choke mechanism is not what it was.

A N Other trying to be helpful disconnected the cable from the carb to oil it. Reassembly has resulted in the choke knob pulling out only halfway now and it does not want to stay in place - it pulls itself back in until about a quarter way out. I have to drive with one hand on the choke until it will run without.

I know I can use a clothes peg but are there parameters or adjustments I should make to put it back how it used to be? Can't find anything in the workshop or Haynes manuals.

i think you can partly twist the cable at the choke end

If its like mine, the knob has about a 2-3" extension with groves in it, these locate on a clip in the body which is fixed to the dash. Sometimes if you pull the cable out the clip comes out and disapears on to the floor. The extension locates with the clip to stop it retaracting in normal practice. I think you will need to remove both from the car and re-assmble.
