Rear Brake cylinder question

Hi

Does anyone have a view/experience of fitting 3/4 bore rear cylinders on a 1098 (with 8" front brakes) will this cause any issues?

I think that they were fitted with 7/8" cylinders as standard..

But you will want the larger bore cylinders in order to maximise the braking force - surely?

Ok

I wondered if there was already enough braking at the rear (and may therefore be desirable to fit smaller cyls...)so for example someone who has uprated their front brakes on an earlier car from 7 to 8 inch and left the original size rear cylinders what is their experience?

Same thing if fitting 9 inch Wolsley brakes.. or maybe even front discs..what happens to the front rear balance then as I take it that the rears are left standard?

Ideally - the rear 8" brakes also from a W 1500 should be fitted at the back. I did this with my Rally Minor. With my current Trav - I have just stuck with the standard rear brakes. With one set of front shoes the pedal action was so light - the fronts were doing all the braking, to the point that they would lock easily....not good. Another set were much better - and the car pulled up better with medium pedal pressure - far from excessive. However they started to 'pull' and I couldn't get it reliably sorted . So now the TR7 shoes are on - no 'pulling' and the pedal pressure is fine and all four wheels seem to be sharing the braking nicely. So I believe brake shoe material is more of a variable than rear brake size! Certainly the 8" rear brakes made for an excellent handbrake action - great for 'handbrake turns'....... :lol:
