"The 89 foot long 14 cylinder version produces 108,920 HP and 5,608,312 lb/ft of torque at 102 rpm. Not bad. It also weight 2300 tons with the crankshaft alone weighing 300 tons. Our only question — does it fit in a Morris Minor"

Big timing belt needed!

Probably need a duplex with that - oh and don't forget to replace the rubbers every 2 hours ;-)

Yes the Twyflex ones used to get hard after a few years. Not as messy as those Holset ones full of silicone :(

Will a 948 clutch fit that without changing the backplate?

If I remember correctly It was on a T V programme last year. They were following the building of the EMMA MEARSK one of eighteen new ships being built for MEARSK Shipping. The engine was built in Germany and shipped to Korea where the ship was being built as it was the only ship yard in the world big enough to build it. She (EMMA MEARSK) is designed to carry 12,000 shipping containers.

In a large ships engine the crankshaft has to be aligned, the weight of the crank means the webs deflect so tapered wedges are placed between the engine case and the steel floor, you then place a micrometer or laser between the webs and rotate through 360 degrees, hammering the wedges until the webs run true to one another.
Then you make cast iron chocks to fit in the space between the engine case and the floor of the ship.
Bolt down the engine and hey presto, one supertanker almost ready to go.
Everyone associates the Tyne the wear and the clyde with shipbuilding, the Tees at Haverton Hill however built the biggest ships we have ever made.
