Seat belts in a series 2.

Took the trim off just now for a look re: fitting front seat belts....and I have questions.
Firstly, what is a "kick plate?" The sill area where I would want to mount the reel looks like it's welded in place. Can't imagine how I could fix an ESM spreader plate at the bottom of the door column.....can't get "in behind."
Secondly, the "over the shoulder" (the car is a 2 door) fixing point would have to be just below the back, side window.
There is no "flat area" where I could fix a spreader plate. I have seen a pair of seatbelts for a convertible, which includes "rounded" fixing plates that go into that curved area below the window. Should it be convertible type kit that I'm looking to buy?
Thanks, peeps.
