After much deliberating I have decided to get the TOYO 155X14 tyres for my 1956 series 2. :D I was thinking about the fact these are too big to locate the spare in the usual place (saloon) and wondered about getting the Bridgestone 145X14 as a spare as it would fit. As moderns often have either a spacesaver spare or no spare i don't see the different size spare as a problem but thought I would canvass the expert opinions of MMOC buddies. What are your thoughts guys? :-?

If you take a look at this thread, a 155 Toyo will fit into the spare wheel compartment: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f= ... tyre+spare

A 155 should fit bit may be a bit of a squeeze fitting it through the gap. If you prefer a 145 that shouldn't be a problem if and when you need to use it - its only 10mm narrower after all...

Agreed. They absolutely DO fit in the usual place.

If you haven't yet bought the tyres, go for the Nankangs. They are much better than the Toyos (especially in the wet) as well as cheaper. I've run both types so have experience with them!

I used a modern "space saver" tire for a spare on our '61 MM1000. After all, how many flats does one get nowadays? IIRC we've had a total of 2 on our daily drivers in the last 15 years, and they were caught when they were only 1/2 flat.
YMMV.

Thanks, I knew I could rely on you. If the 155's will fit I'll get 5 of those. And thanks for the Nankang tip.
 Time to admit my ignorance, 155/55/14 or 155/80/14??

Very much the 155/80/14s! The middle number is the profile from the side expressed as a percentage of the wide - so the sidewall is 80% of the 155 (which is the width of the tread in millimetres). 55 profile is very low profile and not suitable for Minors - you need a bit of give for comfort :)

Ive used the Nankangs and liked them but my usual supplier is having problems getting them, tomorrow Im having Continentials fitted at a local Toyota dealer as apparently the Toyota Igo uses the 155.

Much obliged David. 155/80/14 it is. Think I will try to get the Nankings, I don't do much mileage and need to keep costs down just now :)
