Hello guys and gals, iv got a little issue that's stopping me driving my car. Had the bonnet off for 3-4 days getting some work done. Covered the engine with plastic to stop any rain, when I go to start it now it seems to be revving on start up and keeps rising quickly so I have to turn it off using the key.. Iv checked for sticking throttle and messed with the idle settings to no avail. Was perfectly set up before I carriers out the work. Any help will be much appreciated.

Yes - that's a good possibility Marky - the cable may have been pulled and has jumped up out of the holder at the carb.

The return spring hasn't snapped but is loose enough for me to pry it out with a little force.
The throttle cable which is from a metro hasn't always seated properly but have had no problems for 6 months with until now.
Kind of stumped to be honest with you. Just sounds like someone's accelerating and not stopping.

Is the throttle plate fully home? Have you checked marky's suggestion of the cable snagged out of the fixing? Any pipes been pulled off - the breather pipe perhaps?

Try tensioning up the return spring a bit more.

For it to rev -it must be getting AIR in - there is no shortcut - you need to find out where this is happening!
