Hi all, I have what i believe is an electric fuel pump, see photo. Am i right in saying these can't be fixed?....unlike a traditional mechanical one which you could strip down, clean and probably fix it? Or if the one I have can be fixed, can someone point me in the right direction pls?

Ah, just worked out that my pump has been converted to 'pointless' type, like the one below....so i still think i can't repair it but happy to hear otherwise. Thanks.[frame][/frame]

It certainly is now 'electronic' - they are all 'electric' ! Depends what's wrong with it....perhaps you can renew all the electronics -the coil/diaphragm/valves etc are almost certainly ok.....

I think you can get the electronics as a replacement part because you can buy just that to convert a points pump to electronic. Need to make sure the polarity is correct for your car!

I'm not convinced that 'repairing' a failed electronic pump is the same as 'converting' a points pump. My advice - get a points pump!

Thanks, i think going back to a points pump is a good idea. I've read a few other posts/sites that all seem to says points is best.

Perhaps it's just not set up right; the Burlen conversion requires a bit of fine tuning to work properly. Try and get hold of a set of the instructions, but basically, you need to adjust the fork to hit the 'sweet spot':

I've had a Burlen electronic conversion on my Traveller for years now and it's been great - no more of that having to whack the fuel pump nonsense!

I have an electronic one on my Series One Land - Rover because it doesn't get used ever so regularly, but a points pump on my traveller which is used regularly

As Maurice suggests - you should investigate what's wrong with the pump. What happened - did it just give up suddenly? Have you changed the polarity?

Everything can be fixed. People don't like electronic pumps because they don't understand electronics so generally can't fix them themselves. Check for any 'dull' soldered joints, white fur on connections first. Failing that, if you can send some better close up photos I might be able to help from that.
