Draining gearbox oil

Hi
I want to drain and replace my gearbox oil, but the drain bung is seized solid! I don't want to drill out and helicoil it at this time. Is their another way to get the oil out? Remove plunger bung?

Put a suitable Stilson wrench on it and it should shift.

Done that, the bung now is about 3 sizes smaller than it was

I am very surprised as a proper Stillson wrench with teeth in good condition should make the job very easy because as you pull on the handle the jaws will grip the stub of the drain plug tighter. I have always used a Stillson wrench on very tight gearbox drain plugs in the past and they have always come loose.
As an aside Mole grips are useless for this task.

Or maybe one of those drain unblocker pump thingies

Can be disorientating laying under a car to initially know which way to turn---however the question has been answered!

I did have this problem with a Rover P6 sump plug. The plug was well rounded off and all stillsons and mole grips were doing was shaving more metal off the plug. I ended up cutting a slot in it and using a spanner, edge on, to turn it out.

That's exactly what's happened to mine! I have put oxyacetylene on it to heat it up and it's still solid! I topped the gearbox up ( only took 200ml so not that low ) I will drill the bung out when I remove the box to overhaul it at a later date

Wise move - leave well alone. Or you may end up with a cracked casing......
