I need to buy some disposable gloves as I am starting to get funny looks returning from lunch break with hands covered in grease.
I just had a look on Ebay and there are more types than I expected! Anybody have any experience of the durability and sense of feel that you get with Nitrile/Vinyl/Latex/Vitrile gloves?

Mrs Longdog here - I bought some Bodyguard disposable black nitrile gloves from Amazon (100 for about £6-£7) recently which are very good. They come in large and medium, look less "medical" that the white or blue and are quite long lasting. I bought them to use for work as I'm a postie and get very cold hands when it rains in winter. These keep me warm but still give me the dexterity I need. I also use them for gardening.

I have recently lost the box to Mr Longdog who despite having quite big hands does fit the medium size and he also thinks they are very good, lasting longer than the blue nitrile ones he was using. The only thing they can't cope with is thinners!

Cannot stand the things. Makes my hands all hot and clammy. I would rather use a barrier cream if the task allows.
Before starting any job I always have a bucket of hot water, a container of Manista Natural hand cleaner (a very good product by Comma) and an old towel at the ready.
It saves going indoors and messing up the kitchen sink and keeps her indoors happy as well.
Regular use of a barrier cream and the washing of contaminated skin reduces the possibility of developing dermatitis on the skin as well.
The barrier cream stops the dirt and oil getting ingrained in the skin and makes it easier to remove the dirt

You can get nitrile/ vinyl packs of 100 from Screw fix or Tool station for about a £5.

Bodyguard do pretty much every variant of disposable glove ;)

Latex ones are more durable, but after exposure to oil for a few hours or more they break down.

I tend to use nitrile (blue) ones, they arn't as durable as latex ones but they resist oil better and are much thinner allowing more dexterity, but I do use whatever is available at a reasonable price.

Thanks guys (and Mrs Longdog ) I'll try the Bodyguard ones for brief spanner work and barrier cream for more intense mechanical sessions . I don't tend to use them normally but have some garden weedkiller to handle so wanted them for that as well.

Wow, what has happened in the world of gloves. Just looked on Screwfix and can't believe how many different types there are. Will get some this week.

i get mine when i am down visiting my parents in south wales from "Bridgend motor factors" the last lot were 35 pounds for a 1000 i think.
