paint fading

Hello my name is Richard , i am having problems with the paint on my 1960 Grey Moggy , when it rained the other day , she was out side in it , i didnt have time to get her in , and she got soaked , i thought it would be better to leave her out in the sun to dry out properly , when i eventually got her back into my garage , there was what looked like water marks on the paint work , where it had dried on , but to my horror i could not wipe them off . she has got lots of polish on her , i use auto glym super resin , and top coat , i spoke to my friend and he said it looks like the sun had bleached the paint through the sun shinning on the water droplets as its dried , has any one got any ideas on how i can stop it happening again please . as it took some very hard polishing and many hours to get rid of the marks , as far as i know the paint is prob the old cellulose type ,[frame][/frame]

You can use Farecla G3 paste to cut the paint back a little and hopefully remove the spots.

Thanx , i have removed them with the polish and lots of elbow grease , have u any ideas on how i can stop it happening again , ? any suggestions would be most helpful and appreciated.

i dont think it was acid rain , it didnt affect my other car , but that is fairly new , and modern paint lol .

Those spots are due to the paint being applied too quickly and not leaving time and/or temperature too low to allow the solvents to evaporate.

This happened to my dove grey minor last year, to my horror. Only thing took it off was 3m or g3 compound, then plenty of autoglym super resin. I have since started using autoglym HD wax, which seems to be better. Its where after a heavy shower, because of continuous use of polish the water sits on the flat surfaces in round beads. Then the sun comes out, the ray's shine into the beads of water which are acting like a mirror burning into the paint.

thanx for the tips . i norm use the autoglym super resin and have tried the extra gloss top coat to , but the paint keeps hazing after a week or so , still a shine , but just seems to go flat under the shine . i think maybe the only true remedy is going to be a re spray at some point , think id better start saving my pennies lol , your moggy looks very nice . have you had it long ?[frame][/frame]

You are over-doing the polishing... Just use T cut followed by a good old fashioned wax polish. I'm not convinced all that 'resin' stuff is suitable for celly paint. I find Mr Sheen does a grand job!

thanx again , iv used meguiars 3 stage polish this time , the 1st stage is just a cleaner to clean the paint , the second is like a fine t cut but got oils in and polish , the third is a carnauba wax , this seems to bring her up nicely . and she hasnt dulled off again yet , an old fashioned body repairer iv spoken to , recommended it , suposed to be good on the old cellulose paint the oils in stage 2 feed the paint and the 3 stage carnauba wax protects it , seems to be ok so far , im in the same mind as you now , all this new technology in resins etc is no good on old paint , and im not convinced it works , full stop , as there mas i tiny bit of bird muck on the boot lid , and i fetched it off as soon as i noticed it , but it had stil left a mark in the paint , so this super tough resin is no good against bird muck lol , thanx again for your input , most appreciated , Richard .
