I need to make holes in the new rear pillars I've fitted to take the door hinges and wonder if those who have done this have any tips re the drilling process? I have the doors in place with hinges attached (I'm using the original doors) and have marked their position on the new pillars.
Would it be best to drill with the pillars in position or take them off (they are screw fitted but not yet glued).
I am concerned about making sure the holes are straight particularly the bottom set that have to meet up with the holes in metal frame that supports the rear compartment flooring. I hope this makes sense - any advice would be much appreciated!

Can you get at the back of the pillar to mark round the hole in the metal panel onto the timber? If so you could then ( if pillar was removed) drill from both ends, any slight misalignment in the middle would not be seen. As for the rest of the holes, just make sure you drill at 90 degrees to the surface of the timber. Someone eying you up, to make sure you stay at 90 as you drill would be handy. If you want you could use a smaller drill to make sure you're happy with the position first, if it's slightly out you can 'bend' the final drill size to correct.

Remember that the doors will sit down on the hinges due to their weight - so make the holes slightly 'high' to allow for this.....
