Hi Everybody I bought a temp sender from a large dealer in Gloustershire but can't seem to find a home for it in my 1098 1970 Morris Traveller engine block I found a plug under the thermostat housing removed it but the sender was to long to fit into the hole? then I spotted another plug towards the rear of the block but same again can anyone point me in the right direction , or have I bought the wrong sender, should it be shorter.

You may need an adapter between the sender and the thermostat housing. Is it an electric gauge? Is the sender compatible with the gauge?

You WILL need an adapter to get the length. I hate to think where you found another plug - at the rear of the block..... You must use the plug on the cylinder head...

Hi Declan
Yes I see the position now I have had that plug out where can I get the adaptor from? as the supplier that I have been using doesn't seem to supply the adaptor just the sender, the gauge that I have is a Smiths electrical type with backlight, thanks for the info.

Regards David

You only need ONE tie-wrap - on #1 lead. The others then follow round 1342 without any problem! I'm surprised an electrical sender needs an adaptor. I would try the standard sender.

All depends how tight you are.

Just nip it up - not too tight....it could damage the carbon 'string' inside the HT lead.....

David,
I would also recommend fitting the correct sender unit. There are a lot of different ones on the market and not all work.

Thanks guys temp sender in position now under thermostat housing got it in with a bit of jiggling, now it would seem that the gauge Is not compatable with the sender? the gauge is a Smiths from a mini so I thought there would be no problems not so.

Hi Guys
Temp sender and clock now determined they aren't compatable with each other, how can I determine which is the right sender for the gauge? the gauge that I have is a Smiths type marked up as C-N-H on the dial can't find any date on the clock or any serial number/s there are two spade connectors on the back and provision for a light, any offers?

Regards David

Have you checked that the gauge actually works?

It's fine - see the other thread re fitting an 88 degree stat. Clock?? I have one on my wrist = no need for tacky clutter on the dash panel!

That won't work - phone not on unless I want to make a call.... I think most carry a wee clock on the wrist - or use a phone to look for the time......
