can anyone help me with this annoying noise, It's a clicking. clacking noise that come from the front passenger side, I noticed this noise gradually last week. The noise if fairly loud. It wouldn't be wheel bearings could it? It is a1971 Austin Pick Up. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

It's the electric fuel pump............ Each 'click' = 10p

I must admit I did think of that Could it be anything else?

As above, petrol pump is the obvious answer, but if you have ruled that out, then:
Does it occur when the engine is running and the vehicle stationery, or when the vehicle is moving? Does it vary with engine or road speed? Has it always been there, or just started? If just started, has anything been changed?

Could it be a stone in the tyre, or something stuck to the tyre? A quick examination to check for any damage to the tyre would also be in order. Lastly, it is notoriaously difficult to pinpoint a noise. What you think is front left could be back right

Check the cond. of tie bar - give it a waggle the split pin end.

Just a thought.

Could be the brake shoes catching a not so round drum? You will hear that mostly at slow (walking pace) speeds...

Disconnect the fuel pump - does the noise stop...?

I am fairly confidence that it's not the fuel pump. I will check the tie bar and brakes. Chris, as you're probably aware. I am getting a new chassis for the p/up this summer and I am guessing that there's some flexing in the flooring area p-erhaps. I will update when I know more. Cheers

If you could shed some light on it as per my questions above, then we might stand a better chance of getting you a diagnosis...

Thanks to everyone's input; I have been away and have just got back. The noise is heard when it's moving and it's heard when I am doing 20 mph plus especially when turning into another road or round a roundabout. I will check the rigidity of the torsion bars tomorrow. The petrol pump noise is, I think, is different but will ascertain this tomorrow.

Check that the wheel nuts aren't loose.

re try the wheel nuts i had a loose wheel but the nuts were tight , my wheel had fatigue and i had what appeared to be 4 washers under the wheel nuts that had come loose from the wheel but were actually part of the wheel, luckily theangle they broke out at held the wheel on albeit loose

Well done for finding it - thank goodness you did, before anything dramatic happened. This should serve as a warning to all - unusual noises must be investigated

I checked the trunnions and I had to grease them anyway when I noticed that one of the grease nipples was missing which I promptly replaced and pumped some grease in. Interestingly, the noise have gone (for the moment). Perhaps this was the cause. The wheel nuts were secure and he torsions bars were rigid. I will keep an eye out or rather an ear out for any further noises. Thanks for everyone's input.

When I hear an annoying noise in my car, I find it is solved by either dropping her at her mother's house or the shops. It's usually quiet after that.
