distributor problem

i have been suffering from the engine cutting out when stationary, and decided it might benefit from a new condenser.
however, in the process of changing it, a small plastic screw type attachment (one of two) fell out without me seeing where from. i tried starting the car without it, no luck. with the other rubber screw on the engine side of the points arm i put the rubber screw that had fallen out on the other side of the points arm, which seemed fairly logical, so that the two rubber screws were separated by the metal, but no luck again. i replaced the original condenser, still nothing. is anyone able to help?

The two plastic pieces fit to the post where the power wire and condenser wire fit this is to insulate the wires going to earth without them in place the car will not start
