A number of people, at the last 2 shows/displays I took my '56 Traveller to, remarked upon the wood "needing attention".
So, I've started work on it. Sanded off the old varnish (with a hand block) RHS before[frame][/frame]and after sanding and 2 coats of varnish (a marine and decking type that came with the car)[frame][/frame]LHS before starting[frame][/frame]and then sanded, but not yet varnished[frame][/frame]Couldn't easily get the left-hand door off as the replacement lower hinge studs turn with the nut[frame][/frame]Unfortunately, I have a few joint gaps - Right wheel arch (leading edge)[frame][/frame]Right wheel arch - trailing edge[frame][/frame]Compared with Left hand arch - leading[frame][/frame]and trailing[frame][/frame]LHS waist rail[frame][/frame]LHS top rail (a bit out of focus)[frame][/frame]RHS waist rail[frame][/frame]RHS top rail[frame][/frame]The worst bit is the lower RHS rear arch rail to rear door frame (which is split)[frame][/frame]The rear door top joints[frame][/frame]
The RHS trailing arch piece will have to be replaced but should I let in (and glue) wood slivers into the larger gaps, or should I use a filler/mastic?

You've done a good job there - although I much prefer 'Teak Oil' rather than varnish.....

Thank you Roy, a compliment - most welcome. The actual product is Burgess Marine Hydrosol Woodsealer. It was applied in the same way as shellac is applied in French Polishing - with a "loaded" cotton cloth (no brushes). But what do I do about the gaps?
