lazy windscreen wipers

So, a rainy day in Surbiton.

Drive down road - windscreen wipers ok. Stop wipers. Drive some more. Put wipers back on; don't move. Pull over and see if they're stuck - move them to 45 degrees and they go right and back to starting point, but won't move much beyond say 20 degrees.

Do we think wiper motor? And is said motor easy to replace?

Thanks as ever.

Could be either the brushes in the motor getting to the end of their lifespan or the grease in the rack or gearbox part of the wiper motor going hard / stiff i.e not allowing free movement.Outright replacement of the motor is a possible cure , if expensive option.A new wiper motor may or may not overcome solid grease in the rack.

Assuming you don't have low battery volts? It's probably best to strip and clean everything - new brushes in the motor, and assemble with the wheelboxes 180 deg round from where they were. It'll be like new!

Thanks guys - the low level brushes / grease ideas seem most likely as yesterday they then started working fine again - so i'll just be having a look and see if there's anything obvious.
