Water leaking in

I have been trying to stop various leaks in my 2 door saloon. I have stopped the leak from under the wipers and pumped window sealer around the new side window rubbers. I fitted new modern door shut rubbers and boot rubber.
BUT I still have water getting in both around the windscreen (more sealer and new chrome strip next) and more annoyingly a fairly steady trickle that comes in behind the rear panel below the side window.
This seems to first become visible by the hole in a plate that the headlining wire comes through. The water comes from behind the plate (like the wire) It then runs down the wire a little and then on to the rear wheel well next to the rear seat and on down where it seems to end up on the inner sill above the seatbelt fixing and then soak in to the carpet.
Has anyone seen a leak like this. I don't think it is getting in via the new side window rubbers as that would run down the visible side of the plate not come through the hole, but is it possible that it is following the headlining wire or getting in from the rear window and emerging under the headlining etc?
Any common problems in that area?
