Interior light question

I have managed to trace an interior light fault to a disconnected wire behind the drivers glove box. It now comes on fine when the doors are open and turns off when they re closed, but should It have the option to be able to be turned off even with the doors open or is my memory playing tricks with me? Its a 1968 car.

Thanks

I think you will find you can use the sliding switch by the bulb to have it on all of the time rather than to turn it off, I had a similar problem when I took out the glove box and disturbed the wire and had pulled it out of the bullet connector

Hi, yes i can have it on all the time if i wish, and that works fine...Im just wondering if i should be able to turn it off, so that if i sit with the door open for a long period of time, the light can be turned off?

I think it is working correctly, the sliding switch on the interior light on my 69
over rides the courtesy light (door) switches, ( light on all the time ),
but doesn't have a switching off option.

I've just repaired mine, minus the on-when-open function - new switches ordered!!

I don't think you can have the option of disabling this - although a switch would be easy enough to wire in, if you frequently drive around with the doors open.

Mine also lights up when the bonnet is open. Is this normal??

No, not standard wiring. Probably been wired into the courtesy switch circuit for an alarm's voltage drop sensor.
