Maybe it's a bit far fetched to call this a restoration compared to the extent I have seen of some of the projects that are in here alas I do not have the tools the space or currently the knowledge to go to quite the extents that you guys do but here goes.



Bought the car for mum's 50th birthday which was this February just gone. I wish I had got some earlier photos when it was at the garage but the floor pans and everything look pretty solid after we had removed hideous mishmash of floral carpet off cuts that had somehow made their way in to replace the original carpet.



It looks like the car has been kept pretty well in all fairness the underside doesn't seem anywhere near as bad some of the moggies that were just full of filler and such.




So before we could stick a big bow around it for her we had the dilema of where to spend our first bit of money so that went on new carpets a marina disc brake conversion for the front and seatbelts. We also had a new chrome blade on the back because somebody had decided to put a towbar on the moggy somewhere along the line and an overrider was missing from the rear so that's where we are currently at.




Being a solid reliable car for all intensive purposes she is now my mums daily run around and the old hyundai has gone to the scrapper which actually had more rust after 13 years than Dorris does after 50! I'm only 28 but I can see where the "they don't make 'em like they use to" saying comes from.
My focus now turns to what can I do to get Dorris back to her full gleaming glory in my spare time so some little projects I'm looking on doing are things like referbing the number plates replacing bits of cracked glass and placstic and attempting to fix some of the electricals.

So with a couple of long weekends coming up I want to try and tackle a couple of the following issues: (I will post links going forward because i'm sure someone at some point will crucify me for the size of my pictures - is there a general accepted size for future reference i missed somewhere ?)

- No hooter push button/horn not working - Currently there is just a brown and black wire going up the centre of the steering column which when shorted against the steering wheel nut doesn't really seem to spark.. I saw a spark once since then nothing.

-Indicator stalk plastic cracked and intermittent illuminating fault - I know this sounds like a joke but sometimes when indicating the light flashes sometimes it doesn't

- Speedo does not illuminate - Mum does most of her driving in the daytime so not really much of an issue but can anyone confirm if this type of speedo is supposed to illuminate at night time and if so whats the best way to get it out to repair/replace bulbs or what common faults it could be?

- Interior light does not work - bought a replacement bulb however its really loose when put into the fitting so need to investigate more to that.

-Numberplate respray - Currently looks like somebody just took a paintbrush to these in an attempt to give it a face lift but the numbers appear to be riveted on to the plate, can I remove these to make painting easier and if so how would I reattach them or am I going to end up masking the letters off?

Shavers socket or outlet for an inspection lamp or car tea heating element!!!

If its an electric socket it was probably for an accessory parking lamp that had a clear lens one end and red the other end and fitted to the top of the door glass when wound down and then lifted again so that could be parked with lights showing on one side of car at night without all side lights being on

That is the earth wire from the horn so if it shorts out the horn should sound. Check you have 12v at the horn (purple wire and test the horn by putting 12v across it. You are mossing the sprung connector that attaches to the wire this is the part that keeps connection to the horn push.

Probably easiest to get a new switch to sort that out once and for all.

Try the secret switch! there is a small switch just under the dashboard to the right of the speedo. A little black switch that slides sideways.

Again check you have 12v (purple) and that the earth wires are making good contact, either on the doors open (purple/white) or permanent (black).

Much easier to mask them off and that is not so easy!
