There's no easy short-cut - you can only do a close inspection with a good light. Are the bump stops present on the rear axle - and how much clearance is there between b/stop and chassis 'striker' plate. Is the shackle folding back so much that the chassis leg behind the mount is being contacted by the spring eye on bump?

Check the rubber bush in the damper drop link where it connects to the damper arm, this disintegrates over time and can cause a knock

chassis leg( no marks) :-?

About as much as you can hope for...have you cut a lump off the bump stops?

Well! Cut a good inch off the stops - try to 'taper' it as the original. Wet the hacksaw with a spray to let it cut the rubber more easily.
