Is there anywhere within striking distance of the Falkirk area where I can acquire copper banjo washers for rear brake '64 traveller. When I refitted the old ones I have a small show of brake fluid.I know I can order from England but wondered if there was a supplier closer to home.

You can heat copper washers up until cherry red and plunge them into cold water, that will soften them for re-use.

There was a recent thread explaining why this happens - down to poorly made banjos...... are they new banjos you are fitting?? Perhaps try turning it round? It's unlikely to be a washer problem - unless they have been mangled in some way?

Whilst there may be faulty banjos it does no harm to anneal the copper washers. Suspend them on a piece of wire (old coat hanger) when heating up. Do not hold in a pair of pliers as the pliers may mark the sealing surface.
