2 types of chrome grilles?

Today I dismantled the front panel of the latest MM and found that the chrome centre is held in place with the help of the top chrome lip, looking at the grille which is off the 49 model this seems to fit in a different way, which has studs in the front panel and slides over them, so there were two types of grilles?

Yes Ive noticed that as well, the one on my lowlight has the bit held in place by the top chrome as well and I have saw the other type for sale a few times.

I've also found that the general profile can be different too. I have a re-chromed grille that will only fit properly in 1 front panel (I have 4).
I have 1 grille that has holes in the top through which the top chrome locates and the remainder being slots, whilst the others are all slots.
